Gloves and edge awareness around the cut ends of trim and panel are basic practice on every crew, not a special precaution reserved for larger jobs.

Working around Florida heat and afternoon storms

A metal roof in direct Florida sun gets hot fast, and a crew standing on one in July or August is working in conditions that call for the same basic controls OSHA lays out for any outdoor construction work in heat: water, shade, rest breaks, and scheduling the heaviest work for the morning where the job allows it. Florida's afternoon thunderstorm pattern is its own scheduling factor separate from heat - open panel runs and staged material need to be secured or covered before a storm rolls in, not after the first drops hit, which is one more reason a job benefits from someone managing the schedule against the weather rather than a crew making that call on the fly.

What OSHA's general standard means on a metal roof

Roofing is construction work, and OSHA states the trigger height plainly: fall protection is required at four feet in general industry, five feet in shipyards, six feet in construction, and eight feet in longshoring. Six feet is the number that applies on a re-roof, and it is a lower bar than most people assume. On a single-story Florida house the eave is already above it, so fall protection is in play from the moment a crew leaves the ladder.
